Peter Obi Says 2027 May Be His Final Presidential Contest

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said the 2027 general election may be his last attempt at becoming Nigeria’s president, citing the country’s informal power rotation arrangement.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni Monitored by The News Chronicle, Obi said the likelihood of contesting again in 2031 is “very slim,” as he believes the presidency is expected to rotate to the North after 2027.
According to the former Anambra State governor, if the presidency shifts to the North in 2031, he would be about 78 years old by the time it returns to the South, making another presidential bid unlikely.
Obi explained that while he could reconsider if the presidency remains in the South in 2031, the chances are minimal and would depend on the outcome of the 2027 election.
He made the remarks while responding to a question about whether he would seek the presidency again if unsuccessful in the 2027 polls
