Spreading Ignorance As State Tool

Spreading ignorance—whether through misinformation, prejudice, or the rejection of critical thinking—fuels social division, the rapid circulation of dangerous falsehoods, and the erosion of public trust. When unverified claims are shared without scrutiny, it creates a chaotic information landscape where facts are easily overshadowed by fear.

Interestingly, for so many of us, understanding the cascading effects of this phenomenon provides necessary context for addressing societal blind spots. Nevertheless, discussions across various platforms reveal just how deeply the consequences of this spread affect society.
Flowing from the above, it has become imperative to continue with this contribution in the biblical context: reading through the Holy Book the Scripture; spreading ignorance—often tied to the rejection of divine wisdom and truth—carries severe consequences. Scriptural warnings illustrate that when leaders or individuals actively promote falsehoods, abandon God’s laws, or twist scriptures, it results in widespread spiritual blindness, moral decay, and collective destruction for the community.
In addition, according to the scripture, spreading or allowing ignorance leads to spiritual blindness, moral decay, and communal ruin. When leaders or individuals reject God’s truth, the consequences are severe: whole communities face destruction, individuals fall into captivity, and the innocent suffer alongside the guilty.
CORE CONSEQUENCES OF SPREADING IGNORANCE.
From my observations, both spiritual and personal accounts highlight how the rapid spread of unchecked information can distort realities and cause tangible harm. Individuals who lack access to accurate information are highly susceptible to propaganda, scams, and other deceptive information, which can be weaponized for malicious or self-serving ends. Below are the points of validation:
SPIRITUAL DESTRUCTION:
The most famous warning comes from the prophet Hosea: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). When spiritual knowledge is actively rejected, God’s judgment allows the society to unravel.
EXILE AND LOSS: The prophet Isaiah expands on this, stating that people go into exile and experience famine and thirst directly because they lack knowledge and foresight (Isaiah 5:13).
MORAL AND ETHICAL ECLIPSES: The Apostle Paul warns in Romans 1:21-22 that humanity’s willful ignorance of God leads to futile thinking and darkened hearts. Instead of gaining wisdom, people bring about their own ethical collapse.
BLIND GUIDES: In the New Testament, Jesus uses the parable of the blind leading the blind (Matthew 15:14 / Luke 6:39), warning that both the teacher and the followers will fall into a pit.
SPIRITUAL VULNERABILITY: Ignorance allows individuals and congregations to be outwitted by deception, as 2 Corinthians 2:11 notes the danger of being unaware of Satan’s devices.
SUMMARY
Hate never spreads through knowledge. It always spreads through ignorance. This is how societies pay the price of ignorance. When we rely on hearsay or fear rather than evidence, the cycle of prejudice thrives. By prioritizing critical thinking, empathy, and education, we can actively dismantle the Ignorance fuels hatred and violence that leads to societal fractures.
In conclusion, ignorance on its own can be limiting, but when it drives choices or behavior—especially with confidence—it can lead to harm, injustice, or wasted effort. People acting without awareness of facts, context, or consequences may believe they are doing the right thing, but unfortunately not. Therefore, the most annoying way of ignoring knowledge, to me, is when people dismiss something because it does not match their version of the truth. I find that really dumb. To deliberately throw knowledge overboard because you refuse to be critical of your current knowledge.
Finally, permit me to share a quote from Martin Luther King Jr, an American civil rights activist and Baptist minister who was a prominent leader of the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. MLK profoundly posited: “NOTHING IN THE WORLD IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN SINCERE IGNORANCE AND CONSCIENTIOUS STUPIDITY.”
