Patience Ozokwor on Health Neglect in Nollywood and Her Path to Evangelism

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, known as Mama G, has talked about why so many Nollywood actors are dying. She blames these deaths on the actors’ carelessness and negligence about their health.

Mama G shared her thoughts in Lagos this week and mentioned how the late comic actor John Okafor, known as Mr. Ibu, made her cry at his funeral last month in Enugu State.

She explained, “When you love your work, you might neglect your health. Many people don’t go to the hospital when they’re sick; they just buy painkillers from a pharmacy. This carelessness is dangerous. We often focus on making others happy and forget about our own health.”

Mama G said she cried at Mr. Ibu’s burial because it hit her hard that he was truly gone when he didn’t respond to her calling him by his usual name.

She urged her fellow actors to get regular medical check-ups and avoid unhealthy habits.

Mama G also shared her spiritual journey that in 2016, she felt called by God to work for Him. She used to teach in church but had never preached. One day, she heard a voice asking her to separate herself for 21 days. After some hesitation, she agreed and ended up spending 30 days in isolation, which changed her life.

After this period, she was invited to share her testimony, and people were moved by her story. This led to more invitations from other pastors and evangelists, starting her new role as an evangelist.
