Court Bars FRSC From Operating on State, Local Government Roads

—

The Federal High Court sitting in Kano has ruled that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) lacks the legal authority to operate on state and local government roads.

In its judgment, the court held that the FRSC’s statutory mandate is limited to federal highways, stating that the commission’s operations on roads under the jurisdiction of state and local governments fall outside the powers conferred on it by law.

The ruling, if it stands, could have significant implications for traffic enforcement nationwide by restricting the FRSC’s operations to roads designated as federal highways.

The development was made public by Bashir Ahmad in a post on his X account, which The News Chronicle obtained.

Legal experts say the judgment could prompt a review of the FRSC’s operational scope and may lead to legislative amendments to clarify the commission’s jurisdiction.
