The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI has carried out a precision airstrike on a suspected gathering of ISWAP fighters in Yaganari, Borno State, as part of ongoing counterterrorism operations in Nigeria’s North-East.
Security analyst disclosed the development in a post on X on Friday, citing military sources.
According to the report, the operation followed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) that tracked suspected insurgents moving toward a larger assembly in the Yaganari area.
Military sources said aerial surveillance initially detected four suspected terrorists, two of whom were later observed moving toward another location, leading operators to a larger group of about 12 suspected ISWAP fighters gathered beneath a tree.
Following confirmation of the target, the Air Component launched a precision airstrike at about 12:32 a.m., striking the suspected gathering.
A preliminary battle damage assessment indicated that an unconfirmed number of the suspected terrorists were killed, while others fled the area. Aerial surveillance reportedly continued after the strike to monitor fleeing suspects and identify opportunities for follow-up operations.
Military authorities described the operation as part of sustained intelligence-led efforts under Operation HADIN KAI to disrupt terrorist activities, degrade insurgent capabilities, and support ground troops in the ongoing counterinsurgency campaign across the North-East.
