Over 50 abducted after terrorists attack on Defence Minister’s hometown

In the early hours of Friday morning, Maradun town, located in Zamfara state, fell victim to a harrowing invasion by a group of terrorists.
The town, which is the headquarters of Maradun Local Government Area, was shaken by the brazen actions of these assailants.
Reports indicate that over 50 individuals, predominantly women, were abducted during the raid.
Malam Sulaiman Maradun, a resident of the area, recounted the terrifying ordeal in a phone conversation with Newsmen.
“As I speak to you now, many people mainly women have been kidnapped by these terrorists during the attack and many of our people have been missing and nowhere to be found so far.”
“This is not the first time these dreaded terrorists are attacking Maradun community. Government at all levels should take drastic and urgent measures to address the lingering insecurity affecting our area.”
According to him, the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, launched their assault around midnight.
They instilled fear by firing shots indiscriminately into the air, initiating a house-to-house operation.
Tragically, the violence resulted in the loss of ten lives, with the assailants also plundering a yet-to-be-determined number of animals belonging to the community.
The terrorists even dared to target the palace of the Emir of Maradun, Alhaji Garba Tambari, despite his absence.
As the situation unfolded, the true extent of the tragedy became apparent numerous individuals, predominantly women, were forcefully taken captive by the terrorists.
Many others were reported missing, adding to the anguish and uncertainty gripping the community.
This horrifying incident underscores the persistent threat of insecurity plaguing Maradun and its surrounding areas.
Malam Maradun’s plea for urgent intervention resonates deeply, as he urges both the federal and Zamfara state governments to deploy additional troops to safeguard the populace and restore peace to the region.
Efforts to gather official information from the state police command proved futile, as attempts to contact the Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful.
This communication breakdown only exacerbates the sense of urgency surrounding the need for swift and decisive action to address the escalating security crisis.
