Omo-Agege Exit Won’t Shake APC —Latinore Oghenesivbe

The resignation of former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege from the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been dismissed as politically inconsequential to the party’s fortunes in Delta State, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Latinore Oghenesivbe, a chieftain of the APC and Director-General of the Delta Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Governor’s Office, maintained in a statement issued on Thursday in Asaba that the party’s structure remains intact and unaffected by Omo-Agege’s departure.

He was reacting to the resignation of the former Deputy Senate President of the Ninth National Assembly, who recently quit the party at the ward level.

It would be recalled that Omo-Agege, in a letter addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday, announced his exit from the party.

He reportedly stated that the party no longer reflected the interests of Deltans and that he could no longer remain passive in the political space but would instead take a more active role in representing his constituency in the Delta Central Senatorial District.

However, Oghenesivbe said the development has not altered the political structure of the APC in the state under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

According to him, the resignation may only generate fleeting political discussions but would not cause any lasting impact on the party’s strength or direction.

“It does not change the structure on ground. It does not alter the momentum. And it does not weaken the APC.

“The APC remains the dominant grassroots political force in Delta, and Gov. Oborevwori remains the central driver of that strength.”

He added that with the 2027 elections drawing closer, political alignments in the state were already tilting toward continuity, consolidation, and wider support for the governor and the ruling party.

Oghenesivbe further stressed that political parties derive strength from structures, leadership, grassroots backing, and public confidence rather than the decisions of individual actors.

“That reality explains why the resignation of Omo-Agege from the APC will neither weaken the party nor alter the growing political momentum of Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

“Delta politics has evolved significantly in recent years with the emergence of Oborevwori as the central rallying figure of progressive politics and grassroots governance in Delt.”

He noted that the APC in Delta had become more expansive and deeply rooted across the three senatorial districts than in previous years.

He also stated that the party’s strength was built on a broad coalition of stakeholders, community leaders, youth and women groups, grassroots mobilisers, and citizens aligned with the governor’s leadership and development agenda.

“That is why recent political developments have neither triggered panic within the APC nor disrupted its structure across the state.

“If anything, they have strengthened internal cohesion by consolidating the party around a clearer and more united political direction ahead of 2027.

“Delta politics has clearly moved beyond the era where the fortunes of a political party revolve around one individual,” Oghenesivbe said.
