Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has disclosed that he held strategic meetings in London with key figures in British politics and the business community, including Lord Jonathan Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC).
In a post on his X account, Obi said discussions with Lord Marland focused on expanding trade and investment opportunities, driving economic growth, and strengthening support for small businesses across Nigeria.
He stressed that building a resilient economy capable of creating jobs, mirroring the growth models of countries such as China, Indonesia, and Vietnam, requires deliberate and sustained investment in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
According to the former Anambra State governor, MSMEs remain the backbone of economic development and must be prioritised through stronger policy support, particularly in agriculture and manufacturing, to unlock large-scale employment and productivity gains.
