Gunmen Launch 3am Attack on Kebbi Checkpoint, Kill Two Customs Officers

Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have killed two marine Customs officers in a pre-dawn attack on a security checkpoint in Gendene community, Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Sources say that the incident occurred around 3:00 am on Wednesday when armed assailants reportedly stormed the officers’ duty post, engaging them in a deadly assault.

A resident of the area, Bello Shata, said one of the officers, identified as a senior official, was burnt to death after the attackers set fire to the structure where he was resting.

The attackers were also said to have destroyed the officers’ operational vehicle during the raid.

Two civilians, a man and a woman, were injured in the attack after sustaining gunshot wounds. They are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.

Security authorities are yet to release a full account of the incident as of press time.

However, the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed that an official statement would be issued once comprehensive details are obtained.

“We will issue a statement once we get the full report,” he said.
