Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Tuesday met with the United States Consul General in Lagos, Mr. Rick Swart, in a discussion centred on strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States.
The meeting focused heavily on the need for credible, free, and fair elections in Nigeria, with both sides emphasising the importance of an electoral process free from interference and one that allows all political parties, particularly opposition voices to operate and contribute meaningfully.
According to a statement issued by the former Anambra State governor, the economic cooperation also featured prominently in the talks, with both parties exploring expanded trade and business opportunities between Nigeria and the United States.
Describing the engagement as productive, Obi expressed optimism that Nigeria’s electoral process would continue to improve in credibility and transparency in the years ahead.
