The National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) are set to strengthen ties through a new partnership aimed at jointly accrediting academic programmes in Nigerian universities.
On 17 September 2025, a delegation from the VCN led by its Acting Registrar, Dr. Oladotun Fadipe, visited the NUC headquarters in Abuja to formalize discussions with the Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, FCVSN.
Dr. Fadipe explained that the collaboration seeks to enhance the accreditation process for veterinary education, ensuring that academic programmes meet required standards while aligning closely with industry demands. He emphasized that the initiative will improve the quality of veterinary training and produce graduates better prepared for professional practice.
Responding, Professor Ribadu welcomed the VCN delegation and expressed appreciation for the move. He assured them of the NUC’s readiness to work with the Council in achieving the goals of joint accreditation.
“This partnership is a vital step toward improving the quality of education in the Nigerian University System,” Professor Ribadu said. “By aligning our processes, we will ensure that graduates are adequately trained to meet both national and global standards in the veterinary field.”
The collaboration marks a significant milestone in regulatory synergy, reflecting the shared commitment of both institutions to raising the bar in higher education and professional practice in Nigeria.
