Jafar Abdullahi Dabawu, an aide to Niger State Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, has been killed after unknown assailants invaded his residence in the Maitumbi area of Minna in the early hours of Friday.Â
The deceased, who also served as President of the Minna Emirate Youth Association (MEYA), was reportedly attacked around 2 AM inside his home opposite Maitumbi Police Station, where he lived with his family. He had returned from Kuta in Shiroro LGA the night before, where he participated in a primary election.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers said to be masked gained entry into the house and stabbed him in the chest after he went into the living room following a suspected security breach.
The Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that officers found Dabawu in a pool of blood and rushed him to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
He added that investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest the suspects.
The deputy governor, Yakubu Garba, described the incident as tragic and called for calm while urging security agencies to ensure justice is served.
