NSCDC Strikes at Dusk 12 Foreign Suspects Rounded Up in Ilorin

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC Kwara Command has cast its dragnet wide arresting 12 suspected illegal immigrants from Mali in the quiet Akerebiata neighbourhood of Ilorin.

The operation confirmed in a statement issued by the State Commandant Mr. Bawa Bodinga and signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer Mr. Ayoola Shola followed what officials described as credible intelligence from vigilant residents who refused to look the other way.

According to Bodinga the suspects aged between 20 and 43 were picked up at about 10 p.m. on February 22 after security operatives swooped in on a two bedroom apartment allegedly rented under suspicious circumstances through a local agent.

Like a fisherman hauling in his net at dusk the Corps reportedly recovered nine mobile phones two international passports identification cards a wristwatch assorted keys and cash from the apartment.

Bodinga disclosed that a thorough investigation is already underway to unravel the true motive behind the group’s presence in the state.

“The outcome of the investigation will determine whether there are any criminal links or intentions to perpetrate unlawful activities.

Upon the conclusion of investigations the suspects will be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and necessary action in accordance with existing immigration laws” he said.

The Commandant stressed that the arrests came at a time when security nerves are stretched thin warning that Kwara would not be turned into a safe haven for shadowy actors bent on mischief.

“We remain fully committed to safeguarding lives protecting properties and curbing all forms of criminalities across the state” he said.

He further called on residents to keep their eyes open and ears to the ground urging them to promptly report suspicious movements and collaborate with security agencies to keep the state safe and secure.
