Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled an attempted attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Mafa, Borno State, killing six insurgents during the encounter.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday when heavily armed terrorists stormed the area in large numbers, wielding sophisticated weapons, including a gun truck.
According to a security intelligence officer who spoke on Thursday, personnel of Operation Hadin Kai, working in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and other security outfits, responded swiftly with superior firepower and thwarted the assault.
“The Commanding Officer (CO), who was recently posted to the operation, led his men alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force. They not only repelled the attack but pursued the insurgents, killing six and injuring several others,” the source disclosed.
Residents of Mafa expressed relief following the swift intervention of the troops, particularly as the incident occurred during the holy month of Ramadan, a period when Muslims observe fasting.
The development comes shortly after troops of the 101 Battalion, under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Umar Farouq, foiled another attempted attack in Kukawa Local Government Area of the state.
Security operations remain ongoing across Borno as the military sustains its offensive against insurgent elements in the North-East, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
