The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has given the Federal Government until October 27, 2026, to meet its demands or face a possible nationwide shutdown of economic activities.
The NLC’s Acting General Secretary, Benson Upah, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday following a meeting with the Minister of Labour.
The union’s demands include a reduction in petrol prices, which have reportedly risen to as high as ₦1,429 per litre, and an upward review of the current ₦70,000 minimum wage.

The NLC has directed its affiliates, state councils and civil society allies to begin mobilising for possible nationwide industrial action from October 27.
The labour union expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of its meeting with the Federal Government, saying no concrete commitments were secured and its demands remained unresolved.
“The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has given the Federal Government until October 27 to address workers’ demands, as failure will lead to a nationwide strike,” Upah said.
