NIS Comptrollers Convene in North East and Plateau to Discuss Border Security.

The comptrollers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in the North East region recently gathered in Plateau State to discuss how to improve border security in the area.

This region includes Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Yobe, and Plateau states.

Led by Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) James Sunday, they emphasized the importance of enhancing security due to the region’s history of challenges.

They emphasized the need to work together effectively and complement other agencies involved in border security.

ACG James Sunday personally supervised the reopening of borders in Borno and Yobe states in compliance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive. The goal is to make a positive difference in border security operations.

I personally and physically supervised in Borno and Yobe states the re-opening of the border before returning to Abuja with my report of compliance with the directive. We have no option than to be determined to do things differently and to make a difference.

“We are not doing it through competition as it were, but complimentary engagement with other services and agencies that have business with securing our border frontiers.

“The zonal meeting with comptrollers from the North East states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Yobe and Plateau ended with collective agreement to make a difference by doing things differently.”

The NIS comptrollers also paid a courtesy visit to Plateau State Government House and met with the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Nigerian Army, to strengthen collaboration in ensuring security.

The Comptroller General of NIS, Kemi Nana Nandap, was tasked with achieving “zero tolerance for failure” in border management. ACG James Sunday reiterated this commitment to excellence, urging his officers to remain proactive.

They have implemented strategies such as real-time reporting by field officers to enhance coordination and decision-making.

A Strategic Leadership Summit titled “North East Border Security Summit” is planned, with the support of governors from the North East and Plateau states, to address border security challenges comprehensively.

The ultimate aim is to ensure a safe border, which contributes to national security and instills confidence in Nigerians.
