The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, has directed an immediate investigation into allegations of extortion involving officers stationed along the Lagos-Seme border route.
The directive follows viral online reports accusing some personnel of engaging in unethical practices. In a statement released on Friday in Abuja by the Service Public Relations Officer, Mr. Akinsola Akinlabi, the NIS leadership expressed strong disapproval of the claims.
“This is unacceptable and contrary to its established standards and violates the core values, ethics, and operational guidelines of the Service,” Nandap said.
As part of swift corrective measures, the Comptroller-General ordered the temporary removal of the Comptrollers overseeing the implicated Commands, pending the outcome of a full-scale inquiry.
She further mandated a thorough investigation to identify all officers involved in the alleged misconduct, stressing that necessary disciplinary action would be enforced without delay.
Reassuring Nigerians, Nandap reiterated the agency’s dedication to professionalism, transparency, and efficient service delivery across all border points nationwide.
She stressed that the Service would not condone any behavior that could diminish public confidence or tarnish its institutional reputation.
The NIS boss also called on citizens to report any incidents of misconduct through official channels, including its social media platforms X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook under the handle @nigimmigration.
Additionally, she highlighted the availability of 24-hour contact lines—09121900655, 09121556359, and 09121477092—as part of efforts to reinforce accountability and improve service standards.
Nandap reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to upholding integrity, discipline, and professionalism while ensuring lawful migration processes across Nigeria.
