Nigeria’s Education Reforms Earn Global Praise Ahead of Key Education Summit

Nigeria’s ongoing education reforms have received international recognition, with former Tanzanian President and Chairman of the Board of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), Dr. Jakaya Kikwete, commending the Federal Government’s efforts to transform the sector.

Kikwete gave the commendation during a meeting with the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, ahead of the Global Education Summit scheduled for September.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Mr. Ikharo Attah.

The former Tanzanian leader congratulated Alausa on the progress being recorded in Nigeria’s education sector, describing the ongoing reforms as a clear demonstration of the country’s commitment to improving learning outcomes and strengthening its education system.

“Minister, thank you for your time. Congratulations on the efforts you are making,” Kikwete said.

He also expressed optimism about the forthcoming Global Education Summit, where President Bola Tinubu is expected to co-chair the event alongside Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Kikwete further acknowledged Nigeria’s increasing influence within the Global Partnership for Education, noting that Alausa’s membership of the GPE Board reflects the country’s growing role in shaping global education policies and expanding access to quality education.

Responding, Alausa thanked the former Tanzanian president for his contributions to education and leadership development across Africa and the world.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for all your service to Africa, to the world, and to the children of the world for all the things you continue to do to support foundational education,” he said.

The minister also praised Kikwete’s dedication to mentoring young leaders across the continent, describing his efforts as a model for transformative leadership and sustainable development.

Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening education reforms under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through increased investment, stronger partnerships and evidence-based policies.

He added that the Ministry of Education would continue working closely with the Global Partnership for Education to build an inclusive, resilient and future-ready education system for Nigerian learners.

The Global Education Summit is expected to mobilise increased international investment and strengthen partnerships aimed at improving access to quality education worldwide.
