The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast dust haze conditions across the Northern region and thunderstorms in parts of the South in its daily weather outlook for Monday, February 16, 2026.
According to the agency, slight dust haze is expected over the Northern States during the morning hours, with the condition likely to persist into the afternoon and evening.
The forecast indicates reduced visibility across the region, prompting health and safety advisories for residents, particularly those with respiratory conditions.
In the Central States, NiMet predicted sunny skies with patches of clouds in the morning, while isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall may occur later in the day over parts of Kogi and Benue States.
The agency noted that weather conditions in the region would remain generally stable aside from the possibility of brief showers.
For the Southern States, cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine are expected in the morning, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States.
However, the forecast projects more intense weather activity later in the day, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall anticipated across Edo, Anambra, Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Ogun, Abia, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos States.
NiMet advised residents to remain cautious as dust particles may reduce visibility, while thunderstorms could be accompanied by gusty winds.
Motorists were urged to drive carefully during rainfall and low-visibility conditions, and airline operators were encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather information from the agency to ensure safe and efficient operations.
