Nigerian Soldiers Rescue 33 Passengers From Bandits in Zamfara

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 33 passengers who were abducted by suspected bandits in Magazu area of Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The rescue operation followed credible intelligence received on the evening of Saturday, August 8, 2026, regarding the abduction of passengers travelling along the route.
According to a statement issued by the operation’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in collaboration with police personnel deployed in Tsafe, swiftly moved to the area after receiving the information.
Upon arrival, the troops engaged the bandits as they attempted to move the abducted passengers to an undisclosed location.
The troops opened fire on the bandits, forcing them to flee into the surrounding forests and abandon their victims.
A total of 33 passengers were successfully rescued. The operation also recorded no casualties among the rescued victims, as none was killed or injured during the incident.
Following the rescue, the troops commenced a search operation in the area and continued to track the fleeing bandits.
The Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism during the operation.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the security forces to protecting civilians, disrupting bandit activities and securing major transportation routes across the North-West.
The operation also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide security agencies with credible information on the movements of bandits and other criminal elements.
