Nigerian Army to issue report on airstrike that caused civilian deaths

Investigations are ongoing about an airstrike that happened in Northern Nigeria. The airstrike killed about 85 people who were not involved in fighting.

The Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, talked to reporters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, about this.

He said the findings from the military drone attack in Kaduna state, which happened in December, will be shared with the public by the end of this month.

The army and air force have been asked to fight against armed criminal gangs who are causing trouble in the northwest and central regions of Nigeria.

These gangs kidnap many people and attack villages. In the northeast, the military is also fighting against a group called Islamist insurgents.

General Musa said, “Our job is to protect innocent people, not to harm them. A mistake happened, and we are working to fix it.”

He said the reports about the airstrike are ready, but it has been hard to find out who exactly died in the attack.

General Christopher Musa also talked about Nigeria’s plan to make its own weapons. This is because many other countries don’t want to give Nigeria weapons because they are worried about human rights issues.

Because of disagreements in the ECOWAS, which is a group of West African countries, Niger Republic took its soldiers out of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). This task force is made up of soldiers from Nigeria, Benin, Cameroon, and Chad.

They work together to stop the violence caused by insurgents. This violence has made many people leave their homes and has caused many deaths.

After the airstrike, many people in Nigeria were upset. President Bola Tinubu ordered a detailed investigation into the airstrike.

The airstrike was supposed to target insurgents and criminals, but it ended up hurting innocent people.
