Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Christopher Gwabin Musa (Retired), has arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, for a high-level visit aimed at assessing the current security situation in the North-East.
The minister was received by the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, alongside other senior military officers. The visit marks Gen. Musa’s first official trip to the state since assuming office.
The visit comes amid renewed attacks in parts of Borno, prompting the Defence Minister to engage directly with frontline troops at the headquarters of the theatre command.
His itinerary includes commissioning completed projects, reviewing ongoing security operations, and holding strategic meetings with commanders.
Gen. Musa’s trip follows earlier visits by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff, who were deployed to the state weeks ago on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The directive required service chiefs to relocate temporarily to Borno as part of intensified efforts to tackle insecurity in the region.
Military authorities say the visit underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening operational effectiveness and restoring stability across the North-East.
