Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has publicly accused his family of worsening a private marital dispute after they submitted a formal petition to the Inspector General of Police against his wife, Natasha Osawaru.
In a video message released on Thursday, the 50-year-old singer said the actions of his family had caused serious harm rather than protection.
“My family has in the pretext of trying to save me actually destroyed me and has killed someone’s daughter’s character,” he said.
He added that the situation had now become dangerous.
“This whole thing has gotten dangerously out of hand. Natasha is getting death threats right now,” he stated.
The petition submitted by the Idibia family is dated November 12, 2025. In it, they asked the police to investigate Natasha Osawaru over multiple allegations, including:
-
Financial misappropriation
-
Physical assault
-
Threat to life
-
Bigamy
-
Substance abuse
-
Withholding of personal documents
-
Interference with business travel
The family claimed the singer had suffered financial loss, emotional distress and reputational damage as a result of the alleged conduct.
According to the petition, Natasha allegedly transferred money from 2Baba’s personal accounts without authorisation and withheld his international passport, preventing him from travelling for scheduled engagements.
The family also alleged that the singer had not completed divorce proceedings with his former wife, Annie Idibia, before Natasha presented herself as his wife, raising concerns over a possible violation of marriage laws.
The dispute first became widely known after videos of a heated argument between the couple in the United Kingdom went viral, during which authorities were said to have intervened.
Tensions increased further during an Instagram Live broadcast involving broadcaster Daddy Freeze and the singer’s former managers, Kaka Igbokwe and Lori Tosan, who accused Natasha of attempting to take control of 2Baba’s finances and career.
The singer abruptly joined the livestream to stop the discussion, after which the broadcast ended following a confrontation between him and Natasha.
Shortly after, his younger brother, Hyacinth Idibia, wrote on Instagram:
“Allow us to save you.”
The Edo State House of Assembly summoned Natasha Osawaru, a lawmaker representing Egor Constituency, to appear before its committee to address issues relating to her conduct following the viral footage.
Responding directly to calls that he needed intervention, the singer insisted he was not under any form of control or danger.
“I am a grown man and I have the right to be with whoever I want to be with. I am not a child,” he said.
He also addressed claims about his wellbeing.
“I am perfectly okay. I did my show recently in Abuja and people were there. Everyone has seen me,” he added.
He said similar tensions had played out during his marriage to Annie Idibia.
“My family did this with Annie, the same way. We all have our differences, but this has become too dangerous now,” he said.
As of Friday, the Nigeria Police Force has not confirmed whether a formal investigation has begun. Natasha Osawaru has also not issued a public response to the petition or the allegations.
The situation remains under review by law enforcement and the Edo State legislature, while the singer continues to appeal for privacy and restraint.
