An update on the investigation into the passing of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, famously known as Mohbad, reveals that the results of his autopsy will be available within the next three to four weeks.
Dr. Richard Somiari, the Director of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, disclosed this information while providing testimony during a coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s demise on Wednesday.
The witness underwent cross-examination by the defense counsel during the inquest proceedings.
Mohbad, who was a musician, passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, triggering widespread controversies both nationally and internationally. In response, the Lagos State Government initiated a coroner’s inquest to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
The inquest, which commenced on October 13, 2023, is currently being conducted at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court.
Dr. Somiari informed Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, the Coroner overseeing the proceedings, stating, “We anticipate receiving the initial autopsy findings within three to four weeks and will subsequently validate them to ascertain the cause of death.”
He further added, “Given the absence of a definitive cause of death, we have explored various possibilities, including the presence of toxins, to ensure a thorough investigation into Mohbad’s demise.”
Assuring the public, the forensic expert emphasized the rigorous security measures in place to safeguard the integrity of the autopsy samples. “We have established secure facilities for the storage of evidence and results, along with stringent protocols for monitoring samples dispatched abroad,” Dr. Somiari affirmed.
