Arsenal Begin Talks With Galatasaray Over Victor Osimhen

—

Arsenal have reportedly opened discussions with Galatasaray over a possible move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as the summer transfer window approaches its final stages.

These latest talks were due to discussions between the two clubs regarding Galatasaray’s interest in Arsenal forwards Gabriel Martinelli and Ethan Nwaneri. The Turkish Super League champions have sent a £38.4m bid to sign Martinelli while also showing interest in Nwaneri.

The News Chronicle reports that Osimhen’s name has been thrown into the discussion, although it remains unclear whether it was Arsenal who floated the idea of signing the Nigerian striker or Galatasaray who made him available for talks.

It is not the first time that Arsenal has shown interest in the 27-year-old Nigerian international, after his exploits at the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup where his Golden Eaglets squad won the title.

At the time, then-Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger tried to persuade him to join the club, but he joined Wolfsburg in Bundesliga in 2015, opting to gain first team football.

Since then, he has become one of Europe’s most feared strikers after his impressive displays with Charleroi, Lille, Napoli and his current club, Galatasaray.

With his current form, the Gunners could view him as an alternative to Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus, thus, adding him to the shortlist of targets including Martinelli and Nwaneri.
