Nigerian ground and air forces under Operation Fansan Yanma stepped up their offensive against the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji on Saturday.
Recent coordinated military strikes targeted key hideouts in Fakai, a stronghold in Shinkafi Local Government Area, long associated with Turji’s activities.
The operation also dismantled several bandit camps in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, including Zangon Dan Gwandi, Zangon Tsaika, Zangon Kagara, and a school reportedly used by Turji to store food and weapons.
The school was destroyed to prevent it from being used as a supply base for Turji’s network.
According to intelligence sources, Turji’s group has suffered heavy losses during these strikes. “We killed his son and many of his fighters. I also heard Turji desperately calling for reinforcements from seven other bandit leaders, but none came to his aid. One of his spies narrowly escaped today,” a source revealed.
A significant number of Turji’s associates, including key lieutenants and possibly family members, were neutralized.
Reports also indicate that some fighters were injured in earlier clashes, while others fled to Mangwarorin Gebe, where they are believed to be hiding stolen livestock and valuables.
The operation, described as one of the most decisive efforts in recent times, is led by special forces with support from the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and the Navy’s Special Boat Service (SBS).
Proactive intelligence sharing and early warning systems have been crucial in ensuring civilian safety and minimizing collateral damage.
The Nigerian Air Force conducted precise airstrikes that destroyed Turji’s hideouts and severely weakened his operational capacity.
Meanwhile, elite troops from Operation Hadarin Daji and Operation Fansan Yanma have positioned themselves along key escape routes to prevent Turji’s escape.
Credible intelligence suggests that Turji was last seen in Zangon Gebe, surrounded by heavily armed fighters. Military authorities have vowed to continue the campaign until Turji’s network is completely dismantled.
