Marwa Warns Drug Cartels as He Begins Tougher Second Term at NDLEA

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), has issued a new warning to drug barons and trafficking cartels, saying his second term will bring an even tougher fight against illegal drugs across the country.
Marwa, who was reappointed by President Bola Tinubu for another five-year term on Friday, November 14, 2025, gave the warning while addressing excited NDLEA staff and operatives who gathered to welcome him at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja after the announcement.
The statement confirming his reappointment was issued by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy, on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
Speaking to the cheering crowd, Marwa said his return marks a stronger crackdown on drug networks. “This second tenure is going to be hell and bleak for them. Drugs shall not pass in or out or within Nigeria,” he declared.
Marwa also said he was surprised by the warm reception: “What a surprise. I didn’t expect to return from Juma’at prayer to see this celebration, with dancing and singing by our personnel. Thank you very much.”
He expressed gratitude to God, President Tinubu, and the entire NDLEA workforce. “We thank the President for recognizing our collective efforts and giving us a new mandate to continue the war against drug abuse and trafficking. I thank the management, officers, men, and women of the agency who serve the nation day and night despite the risks.”
Marwa further appreciated the continued support from senior government officials and international partners. He acknowledged the Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and all local and foreign partners working with the NDLEA to rid Nigeria of illegal drugs.
