FG Launches 2025–2026 Wheat Dry-Season Farming, Targets 80,000 Farmers

The Federal Government has officially launched the 2025–2026 wheat dry-season farming programme in Borno State, with a target of supporting 80,000 farmers across 16 states.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Saturday, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari (CON), said each participating farmer would receive support to cultivate half a hectare of land.
He added that if successfully implemented, the initiative is expected to yield wheat valued at more than N100 billion.
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, commended the Federal Government for its continued support, especially in enhancing security for farmers.
He noted that under the 2025 wet-season farming, most farmers in the state produced enough food to last them between 12 and 18 months.
Governor Zulum also disclosed that 6,000 farmers from the state are part of the new wheat programme, collectively cultivating 3,000 hectares.
The government says the initiative is aimed at boosting local wheat production, reducing import dependence, and strengthening food security across Nigeria.
