This gesture, described as a revival of the Roman tradition of creating sculptures of one’s spouse, was shared by Zuckerberg on social media on August 13.
He expressed his excitement by stating, “Bringing back the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife,” and credited the artist Daniel Arsham for the creation of the statue, which features a sea-green-colored Chan in a structured silver garment with drapings.

The Roman tradition of creating sculptures of wives was based on the concept of “pietas,” which preached duty, loyalty, and devotion to family, the gods, and the state. The sculpture symbolized the woman’s virtues, showing her “moral integrity, fertility, and loyalty to her husband and family,” to the public.
