Manchester United suffered a heavy defeat to Newcastle United on their 32nd Premier League matchday after dropping their first-choice Cameroonian goalkeeper, André Onana.
This decision followed claims that he made two errors leading to goals during the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Lyon on Tuesday.
André Onana has come under heavy criticism following that performance, a situation that led the club to replace him with Turkish counterpart Altay Bayındır. However, Bayındır conceded four goals and received the poorest rating of 5.0 in the game.
Harvey Barnes scored a brace, while Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães were also on the scoresheet for Newcastle. Manchester United’s only goal came from Alejandro Garnacho. The game was tied 1–1 at halftime, but United collapsed in the second half, ending in a 4–1 loss at full time.
With the victory, Newcastle have overtaken Manchester City to claim fourth place, while Manchester United languish in 14th with just 38 points — a mere 17 points above the relegation zone.
