Makinde is wrong, Atiku commiserated with Oyo State on Ibadan Explosion – Ibe

—

Following the shocking explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State on the 17th of January, 2024, resulting in the loss of lives and properties, condolences have continued to pour in.

Recently, Peter Obi, the presidential flag bearer of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, paid a courtesy visit to the governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde to commiserate with him and the entire state on the sad event.

Seyi Makinde while appreciating Obi for his visit mentioned that though both of them are inclined to different political parties, it is noteworthy that Obi deemed it fit to set aside politics and commiserate with the people of Oyo. He however noted that he had not received any message from his party PDP nor it’s presidential candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

In a quick rebuttal to the Oyo State governor’s statement, Atiku’s media has come out to state that Atiku was actually quick in commiserating with the Oyo State government over the sad incident.

In a statement released to the press , it said:

“With due respect to Governor Seyi Makinde, we wish to correct his expression about the response of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar to the recent explosion in the city of Ibadan.

Atiku Abubakar made a condolence message about the Ibadan explosion, less than 24 hours of its occurrence, where he shared his commiseration and empathy with the good people and government of Oyo State over the incident.

Perhaps the Governor has been too busy to take track of media reports on the incident. But we wish to put on record that on the 17th of January, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar did make a widely available message on the Ibadan incident, which reads as follows:

“I wish to express my condolences to the good people and government of Oyo State over the explosion that rocked the capital city of Ibadan late yesterday night.

While the government continues to provide humanitarian support to victims of the explosion, I commiserate with the families of those who might have lost their lives and property to the explosion. -AA”
