Lawmaker Empowers Edo Farmers With Wheelbarrows, Shovels

Over 2,300 farmers in Owan Federal Constituency, Edo State, have received farming equipment and materials from the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rep. Julius Ihonvbere, as part of his agricultural empowerment initiative.

We gathered that the distribution exercise, held on Tuesday at Uzebba community, covered all 22 wards in the constituency.

Ihonvbere, represented by his Legislative Aide, Mr. Kelvin Esemuze, said the gesture was aimed at boosting food production and easing the burden on local farmers.

According to Esemuze, the items shared included 1,744 spraying pumps, 250 litres of herbicides, 45 planting machines, 22 digital weighing scales, 64 wheelbarrows, 44 bags of seed closers, 22 HP ridgers, 20 threshing machines, six hand tractors, 64 shovels, and bags of fertilisers.

“We are equipping 2,340 farmers with tools to enhance productivity and boost food production in their various communities.

“The items are being distributed equally to all the 22 wards in Owan Federal Constituency with each getting 93 items.

“While the threshing machines were distributed to communities where rice farming is carried out in the constituency,” Esemuze said.

He urged beneficiaries to make the best use of the support to improve agricultural practices and strengthen food security in the constituency.

One of the farmers, Mr. Friday Okeke, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, applauded the lawmaker for the intervention.

“I want to say thank you to the lawmaker for empowering the farmers.

“We can now improve our farming skills with the tools and boost food production in the constituency,” he said.
