Ohanaeze Youth Wing Disowns Group Over Alleged Attack on INEC Commissioner

—

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing Worldwide has disowned a group allegedly operating as Ohanaeze Youth Forum, distancing itself from a publication accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) National Commissioner in charge of Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo states, Dr Ken Nnamdi Ukaegbu, of partisanship.

The Global Youth Leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, in a statement on Thursday, described the publication as mischievous and misleading, alleging that it was intended to incite the public, create insecurity and discourage citizens from performing their civic responsibilities.

Okpalaezeukwu said the organisation had no affiliation with the purported Ohanaeze Youth Forum or an individual identified as Agwu-awa Malachy, insisting that the publication did not represent the position of the recognised Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing.

He stressed that Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, under the leadership of its President-General, Senator Azuta Mbata, remained a non-partisan Igbo socio-cultural organisation committed to the security, welfare and protection of Igbo people, culture and values.

The youth leader warned individuals behind the alleged impersonation to desist immediately, adding that the organisation would pursue legal action against those responsible.

He also called on security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS), to investigate the matter and prevent any potential threat to public peace and national security.

Okpalaezeukwu urged Igbo youths across the country to remain peaceful and vigilant against individuals seeking to create confusion or misrepresent the position of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation.

He further called on INEC and security agencies, particularly the police, not to compromise their responsibilities ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging them to remain committed to delivering credible, transparent, free and fair polls.
