Lagos Govt Demolishes Illegal Shanties Along Lagos-Badagry Expressway

The Lagos State Government has begun the removal of illegal squatters and makeshift structures along the Orile–Okokomaiko stretch of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway as part of efforts to restore order and improve public safety.

The development was disclosed in a reposted post on Monday by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Mr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, via his official X handle.

According to the post, the operation is being carried out by a joint enforcement team tasked with reclaiming the busy transport corridor from illegal occupants.

The exercise targets shanties and makeshift structures erected on the expressway median and other unauthorized locations.

Officials are also clearing debris and illegal structures to enhance environmental sanitation, improve road safety and ensure the free flow of traffic along the corridor.

The state government said the enforcement exercise underscores its commitment to maintaining environmental standards, protecting public infrastructure and preserving law and order across Lagos.

The operation was still ongoing as of the time this report was filed.
