Troops have thwarted an attempted infiltration of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The News Chronicle reports that the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Monday when troops, alongside other security personnel stationed at the institute, detected the movement of suspected criminals around the facility.
The security operatives responded immediately, forcing the suspects to flee into nearby bushes before they could gain access to the institute.
Following the incident, troops launched a search operation in the surrounding area where the suspects were last seen. However, no arrests were made as the suspects had already escaped.
Military sources said security has since been reinforced at the institute, with surveillance and area domination patrols intensified to prevent any further attempts to breach the premises.
Security agencies are closely monitoring the area while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attempted infiltration.
The latest incident comes about two weeks after unknown gunmen attacked the institute, killing three security operatives.
The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alfred Alabo, said the June 16 attack claimed the lives of two soldiers and a police officer, although the identities of the victims were not disclosed.
Following that attack, the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, ordered the deployment of additional security personnel and intensified patrols around the institute to strengthen security.
