Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has announced the beginning of rehabilitation for 70 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in the state.
This announcement was made by Ismaila Isah, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, during the launch of the distribution of medical equipment and consumables to all healthcare facilities in the state, on Thursday.
Governor Ododo stated that the state government has secured funding for the rehabilitation and has pre-qualified contractors for the project.
These healthcare centres will be distributed across the 21 local government areas of the state.
Additionally, seven new healthcare facilities will be established in communities that previously did not have any.
The ceremony also marked the start of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) program for children, organized by the state Ministry of Health and its donor partners in Lokoja.
Governor Ododo emphasized his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the state’s health sector. He insisted that no one should be deprived of access to quality and affordable healthcare.
He acknowledged that quality healthcare delivery is a complex system requiring cooperation between governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Governor Ododo expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in the health sector through infrastructure and human resource development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also thanked partners and donor agencies for their efforts in making healthcare accessible and affordable for everyone in the state.
Dr. AbdulAzeez Adams, the State Commissioner for Health, reiterated the government’s dedication to providing quality healthcare.
He highlighted the significant investments in the health sector, which are evident through various infrastructural developments and collaborations with partners and donors to supply equipment and consumables.
The distributed medical equipment and consumables include oxygen concentrators, UPS, pulse oximeters, oxygen cylinders, flow meters, nasal cannulas, generators, four mobile X-ray machines, patient monitors, aprons, theatre scrubs, microcentrifuge tubes, intravenous infusions, filter universal pipette tips, surgical gowns, and public address systems for sensitization across the 239 wards in the state.
Governor Ododo also revealed plans to rehabilitate the Kogi State Central Medical Store, which houses the Kogi State Drug Management Agency, recently upgraded to an e-pharma warehouse.
“This move aims to ensure proper storage of drugs and medical consumables, allowing the state to procure drugs directly from manufacturers at lower costs for distribution to health facilities.”
Additionally, the Governor approved the provision of two 33KVA electricity transformers and generators for the state’s Cold Chain Facility.
