Kano SWAN Hails Maikaba’s Flying Eagles Appointment

The Kano State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has applauded the appointment of Abdu Maikaba as the new Head Coach of Nigeria’s U-20 male national team, the Flying Eagles, by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The commendation was conveyed in a statement released on Friday in Kano by the chapter’s Secretary, Muhammad Nur-Tijani.

According to Nur-Tijani, Maikaba’s wealth of experience and impressive track record in Nigerian football made him a fitting choice for the role. He noted that the tactician had previously managed the Golden Eaglets and also served as assistant coach of the Flying Eagles under Paul Aigbogun.

He further highlighted Maikaba’s coaching stints with several top Nigerian clubs, including Enyimba, Wikki Tourists, Kano Pillars, and Plateau United.

Nur-Tijani also recalled that the coach led Akwa United to triumph in the 2017 Federation Cup, regarded as Nigeria’s oldest domestic football tournament.

“SWAN Kano described his appointment as well deserved, in recognition of his dedication and contributions to Nigerian football,” he said.

The association expressed optimism that Maikaba’s vast experience would inspire a new era of success for the Flying Eagles.

SWAN Kano also assured the coach of its support while calling on Nigerians to stand behind him as he takes charge of the country’s U-20 side.
