Nigerian streamer Carter Efe has been selected for the 2026 class of Kai Cenat’s Streamer University, becoming one of two Nigerian-linked creators named to the program this year alongside Nigerian-American streamer Damii.
Kai Cenat revealed the roster on Monday, July 6, 2026, during a livestream that marked his return after a nine-month break from regular streaming.
The broadcast aired at 8:00 PM EST and ran at the same time on both Twitch and YouTube, the first time Cenat has streamed on both platforms simultaneously. The full class includes 120 creators, among them Skai Jackson, Queen Naija, Sara Saffari, StableRonaldo, PlaqueBoyMax, Sketch, and JasonTheWeen.

Carter Efe, known for comedy skits and his song “Machala” before moving into livestreaming, has built his audience partly through streams featuring Nigerian musicians and celebrities. A stream with Davido helped push his following past 560,000 on Twitch, making him the most-followed Africa-based streamer on the platform.
Davido offers to cover travel costs
Shortly after the announcement, a screenshot of a direct message from Davido to Carter Efe began circulating on X. In the message, Davido congratulated Carter Efe and wrote: “Anything u need getting to America I got u. Covered.” Carter Efe replied by thanking him and calling him his “boss.”

Reaction to Carter Efe’s selection has been largely positive, with many Nigerian users on X calling it a win for the Nigeria’s creator economy.
Other users pointed to an earlier disagreement involving Carter Efe and fellow Nigerian streamer Peller. According to posts referencing the exchange, Carter Efe had advised Peller against applying to Streamer University last year, calling the program “nonsense.” Peller did not apply. Carter Efe’s own selection this year has revived that exchange among users, with some accusing him of inconsistency and others defending his right to change his position.
Carter Efe is not the first Nigerian streamer to join the program. Shank Comics was part of the inaugural 2025 class, held over three days at the University of Akron campus in Ohio starting May 22, 2025. During that edition, Shank Comics crossed 90,000 Twitch followers, becoming the most-followed African streamer on the platform at the time, and received a $10,000 gift from YouTube personality MrBeast.
Who is Kai Cenat
Kai Cenat, 24, is a Twitch streamer from the Bronx, New York. In November 2025, he became the first streamer to reach 20 million followers on Twitch. He launched Streamer University in 2025 as a multi-day event bringing creators together for training, networking, and joint livestreaming sessions, alongside mentors such as DDG and ExtraEmily.
On January 13, 2026, Cenat released a YouTube video titled “I Quit,” in which he spoke about self-doubt and the need to step back from his streaming schedule. In the video, he said: “I quit overthinking.” The video also introduced his clothing brand, Vivet, which he developed after traveling to Italy to help produce the line. During his break, he ran daily livestreams focused on reading aloud, a series that educators credited with encouraging literacy among young viewers.
Streamer University 2026 applications opened in early June with a trailer styled after the Harry Potter films. Selected participants receive free attendance, meals, and travel accommodations for the event.
