The Federal Government has expressed grief over the death of Miss Nnani Adaobi Marian, a Nigerian medical graduate who reportedly died after sustaining injuries during a Russian aerial attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it received the news of the 23-year-old graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University with “profound sadness.”
The statement, signed by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said Marian “reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during a Russian aerial attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine.”
“The Federal Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and the Nigerian community affected by this tragic loss,” the statement said.
According to the ministry, the government is already engaging the relevant authorities and Nigeria’s diplomatic missions to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and provide support to the bereaved family.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria reiterates its deep concern over the continuing loss of civilian lives arising from the ongoing conflict and renews its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities,” the ministry stated.
It further called on all parties involved in the conflict to pursue peaceful means of resolving their differences.
The ministry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of Nigerians living abroad, assuring that it would continue to monitor developments through the country’s diplomatic missions while providing the necessary consular support to affected citizens and their families.
