Kaduna: Nigerian Army Commissions New RSM Accommodation Under Special Projects Programme

—

The Nigerian Army has inaugurated a newly constructed Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) accommodation at the 51 Signals Brigade, Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna, as part of efforts to improve the welfare of its personnel.

The facility was inaugurated on Monday on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Wase.

Representing the GOC at the ceremony, the Chief of Staff, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Timothy Opurum, said the accommodation was constructed under the Nigerian Army Special Projects Programme.

He noted that the initiative reflects the COAS’ commitment to strengthening infrastructure aimed at enhancing the welfare, morale and operational effectiveness of officers and soldiers.

According to Opurum, personnel welfare remains one of the top priorities of the Army leadership, adding that providing quality accommodation for Regimental Sergeant Majors would create a more conducive living and working environment.

He said the project would further motivate personnel to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and dedication in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities.

Opurum urged the beneficiary to take ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance, stressing that safeguarding military infrastructure is a collective responsibility.

He also commended the Chief of Army Staff for introducing the Special Projects Programme, describing it as a transformative initiative that continues to improve infrastructure across Nigerian Army formations nationwide.

Earlier, the Commander of the 51 Signals Brigade, Brig.-Gen. O.O. Okungbure, thanked the Chief of Army Staff for approving the project and appreciated the GOC for his leadership and support throughout its execution.

Okungbure assured the Army high command that the accommodation would be properly utilised and maintained for the benefit of both current and future occupants.

The inauguration featured the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, inspection of the facility and a group photograph attended by senior military officers, Regimental Sergeant Majors, soldiers and other invited guests.
