NSA Ribadu, US Envoy Meet Over Nigeria’s Worsening Security Crisis

—

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has held talks with a high-level United States delegation to strengthen bilateral cooperation in tackling Nigeria’s worsening security challenges.

The delegation was led by the newly confirmed US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Frank Garcia, who is making his first official visit to Nigeria since assuming office earlier this year.

Ribadu said the meeting reviewed the progress of the Nigeria–US Joint Working Group and explored ways to deepen the long-standing security partnership between both countries.

In a post on his Facebook page, the NSA said the discussions reaffirmed the shared commitment of Nigeria and the United States to enhancing dialogue, cooperation and joint security efforts.

“The meeting strengthened the strong and enduring Nigeria–US partnership and assessed the progress of our Joint Working Group.

“We restated our shared commitment to deeper dialogue, cooperation and mutual security priorities,” Ribadu wrote.

The meeting comes as Nigeria continues to battle a worsening security situation, with terrorists, bandits and other armed criminal groups carrying out deadly attacks across several parts of the country.

Kidnappings remain widespread in many regions, while repeated attacks on communities have resulted in the loss of lives and displacement of residents, underscoring the need for stronger international security cooperation.
