JUST IN: Shettima Departs Abuja for Angola to Represent Tinubu at AU Summit

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday departed Abuja for Luanda, Angola, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 21st Extraordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, disclosed this in a statement obtained by The News Chronicle.

According to Nkwocha, the high-level summit will focus on strategies for conflict resolution and efforts to promote lasting peace and stability across Africa.

Shettima is expected to join African leaders and other stakeholders to deliberate on practical approaches to addressing regional security challenges and strengthening continental mechanisms to prevent and resolve conflicts.

Nkwocha said Nigeria would use the summit to reaffirm its longstanding role in peacebuilding and conflict resolution across Africa and contribute to discussions on strengthening mechanisms for sustaining peace on the continent.

The Vice President, who is accompanied by senior defence and security officials, will deliver Tinubu’s address at the summit and present Nigeria’s position on the issues under consideration.

Shettima is also expected to reaffirm Nigeria’s commitment to promoting peace, security and stability across Africa.

He will return to Nigeria after concluding his engagements in Angola.
