JUST IN: Senate Clears Bernard Doro as Minister in Under 30 Minutes

The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr Bernard Doro as a minister after a swift screening session that lasted under 30 minutes.

Doro, a Plateau-born technocrat and the third minister from the state in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, pledged to strengthen transparency and fairness in Nigeria’s humanitarian programmes.

“I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” he told lawmakers, who praised his credentials and leadership experience before asking him to “take a bow and go.

President Tinubu had earlier forwarded Doro’s nomination to the Senate in line with Section 147 (2) of the 1999 Constitution. Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the request and referred it for immediate consideration.

Doro succeeds Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, recently appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

With more than two decades of experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described him as an advanced clinical practitioner with frontline NHS experience across urgent care centres, GP practices, and hospitals.

Doro is expected to be sworn in at the next Federal Executive Council meeting.
