Isaac Fayose Questions Chinese Rail Loan Repayments Amid Infrastructure Concerns

—

Social commentator Isaac Fayose has raised concerns over Nigeria’s continued repayment of Chinese loans obtained during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, questioning the current state of railway infrastructure linked to the borrowing.

Fayose said in a video posted on social media that some of the railway projects sponsored by the last government have not delivered the intended long-term benefits, even after years of loan repayment.

The News Chronicle reports that Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, also linked the situation to the country’s refinery rehabilitation projects, saying that Nigerians are still paying off loans related to the facilities, while many of the planned enhancements have not yet materialized.

He questioned the value of the borrowed money and demanded greater responsibility for running public infrastructure initiatives. His remarks have fueled online debates about government borrowing, project implementation, and transparency.

The allegations in the video, however, reflect Fayose’s own opinions and haven’t been independently confirmed by relevant government departments at the time of this report.
