Social commentator and businessman Isaac Fayose has sparked fresh reactions online after condemning Nigerians who continue to defend the current APC-led government despite worsening economic hardship across the country.
In a strongly phrased social media post, Fayose pondered why, in the face of growing gasoline prices, electricity concerns, and mounting living expenses, many people still back the government. He claimed that paying over ₦1,400 per litre for gasoline to run generators and charge phones only to support government policies online is an example of what he called “another sign of mental illness.”
The News Chronicle reports that Fayose’s remarks swiftly sparked intense debate across social media channels, with some Nigerians agreeing that the economic situation has become untenable, while others accused him of exaggerating the nation’s difficulties for political notice.
The businessman has been very outspoken recently regarding rising inflation, gasoline prices, and growing pressure on average Nigerians. His most recent comments come at a period when, following the elimination of fuel subsidies, many homes and small businesses are still fighting inconsistent power supply and excessive transportation costs.
As debates about governance and economic suffering grow before the next elections, political voices and critics alike are increasingly using social media as a battlefield to sway public opinion.
