Report reaching The News Chronicle has it that unknown gunmen have abducted at least eight students of the Engineering Campus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi in Gudi, triggering panic and fear across the university community.
Sources say the attack reportedly occurred around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday when armed assailants stormed off-campus hostels situated near the university environment.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen forcefully invaded multiple student residences, whisking away the victims to an unknown destination in a coordinated operation that lasted several minutes.
A witness, who requested anonymity, said students spent the night in fear, lamenting the absence of immediate security response during the attack.
“As the shooting and shouting were going on, students were crying and hiding in fear. There was no visible security response while the operation lasted,” the source said.
Meanwhile as of press time, security presence around the campus was reportedly still minimal, despite rising anxiety among students currently taking their examinations.
The incident has further heightened tension in the area, with students and residents calling on security agencies and the Nasarawa State Government to urgently rescue the abducted students and reinforce security around the campus and surrounding communities.
Meanwhile, the University authorities and security agencies had yet to issue an official statement as at the time of filing this report.
