IOM Provides Essential Household Items to IDPs in Benue

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), Wednesday, extended a helping hand to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Benue by donating essential household materials.
Among the donated items are blankets, cooking pots, rechargeable solar lamps, laundry soap, stainless trays, jerry cans, kitchen knives, reusable sanitary pads, bath soap, serving spoons, basins, ropes, packaging bags, synthetic mats, stainless cups, buckets, disinfection tablets, and mattresses.
Additionally, user guidance leaflets are recommended to be included in the kits for better utilization.
Mr. Laurent De Boeck, the Chief of Mission for IOM in Nigeria, personally led the donation at Ichwa IDP camp in Makurdi.
He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the State Government and development partners to effectively address humanitarian crises in the region.
Mr. De Boeck commended the State Government’s efforts in assisting IDPs and encouraged further action towards long-term solutions.
Dr. Mathew Onoja, representing the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), also contributed by donating 2,000 health kits.
These kits aim to uphold the dignity of women and girls in the camps, ensuring their well-being and hygiene.
In response, Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacient Alia, expressed gratitude for the support and announced the upcoming launch of the Rapid Response Fund.
This initiative, made possible through collaboration between IOM and the United States Agency for International Development’s Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (USAID-BHA), will further aid in addressing the needs of displaced persons.
The governor’s deputy, Sam Ode, highlighted the significance of international partnerships and their collective efforts in providing assistance to those in need.
