Instagram Now Allows Comment Editing, but Only Within 15 Minutes

Instagram Users can now edit their comments after posting, following a new update by the platform, released on April 10.

The feature is available on version 424.1 of the app and above, introducing a long-requested option with clear limits.

With this update, users have a 15-minute window to correct or adjust a comment after it goes live. Within that period, edits can be made multiple times. Once the time expires, the edit option disappears, and the comment remains as it is.

The change is straightforward but specific. Only the text in a comment can be edited. If a comment includes both text and media, such as an image, the media cannot be changed. When a comment is edited, it is marked with an “Edited” label, so others are aware a change has been made. However, previous versions of the comment are not visible.

For regular users, this brings a practical improvement. Until now, fixing a mistake meant deleting the comment and posting it again. The new feature offers a short window to correct errors without removing the original interaction.

The update comes with several other adjustments across the platform. Creators can now test and schedule Reels, while Stories support music clips of up to 20 seconds. There are also new AI-supported font styles, improved organisation for saved posts, and a refreshed layout for comments and captions.

The platform has also expanded restrictions on teen accounts, following legal concerns raised in New Mexico and Los Angeles over online safety.
