Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, also known as Mr P, has said he will continue to use the P-Square name despite his ongoing dispute with his twin brother Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy.
In a post shared on April 21, 2026, Peter Okoye responded to criticism from fans who questioned why he still retains “P-Square” while distancing himself from his brother. He wrote: “I discovered the name, I earned it, and now I own it 100%… we are still in court even as of yesterday.” He added that the matter is ongoing and described it as “a game of chess.”
The dispute is the latest development in a long-running feud involving the twin brothers and their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who managed the group during its peak years.
Peter and Paul Okoye, born November 18, 1981, rose to prominence in the early 2000s as P-Square, becoming one of Africa’s most successful music duos. Their partnership began to deteriorate publicly around 2015, with disagreements over management, finances, and creative control.
The group formally split in 2017, after which Peter performed as Mr P and Paul as Rudeboy. They reunited in 2021, releasing music and performing together, but in 2024, they had another fallout.
In recent statements, Peter Okoye alleged that the conflict involves financial issues dating back more than 20 years. He accused his brothers of diverting funds linked to the group’s earnings and said the matter is now before the courts.
He stated: “I call it betrayal of the highest level… wait until the EFCC starts releasing documents in court.”
Peter also rejected claims that spouses were responsible for the dispute, saying the alleged financial issues began long before any of the brothers were married.
Critics on social media argued that Peter should drop the name if he intends to separate from his brother.
In response, he maintained that his continued use of the name is justified by his role in creating and developing the brand. He did not provide legal documents publicly but indicated that the issue is part of the ongoing court case.
Peter Okoye also announced on Monday, April 20, that he would no longer celebrate his birthday on November 18, a date traditionally shared with his twin brother. He declared a new celebration date of November 30, drawing criticism on social media. Responding to the backlash, he wrote: “Na my birthday date I move… no be your own, why e dey pain you?”
Reacting to the developments, Nigerian singer J Martins, who has worked with the duo, called for restraint. In a message shared online, he advised both brothers to resolve their differences privately, stating: “Can we fix this stuff inside our house & not bring this shame on Ndi Igbo nke anyi.”
The outcome of the court case may determine the future use of the P-Square name and the extent of any financial claims between the parties.
