The presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, on Friday met with former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in Abuja to discuss the state of the nation and prospects for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The meeting, held behind closed doors, brought together two longtime associates who previously worked together in public service.
During Jonathan’s time as Vice President, Hayatu-Deen served on the National Council on Privatization and chaired the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). He also later served on the Presidential Advisory Committee during Jonathan’s administration.
According to a statement issued by the Mohammed Hayatu-Deen Media Office, the visit was aimed at formally informing Jonathan of Hayatu-Deen’s decision to contest the 2027 presidential election on the ADC platform.
During the meeting, Hayatu-Deen commended Jonathan for his statesmanlike contributions across Africa, particularly in promoting democracy and electoral integrity. Jonathan reportedly welcomed the visit warmly and wished him success in his presidential ambition.
The statement further noted that Hayatu-Deen, drawing from over 40 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, aims to tackle insecurity, reduce the cost of living, create jobs, and improve economic opportunities for Nigerians if elected president.
